SHOCKING, UNEXPECTED DEATH. HE’S JUST THE BEST SON THAT YOU COULD EVER HAVE AND THE BEST BIG BROTHER. 23 YEAR OLD JORDAN WELLS WAS A GRADUATE OF SOUTH OLDHAM HIGH SCHOOL, WHERE HE WRESTLED. ONE OF HIS COACHES SAID HE JUST HAD A CONTAGIOUS, CONSTANT SMILE AND JUST POSITIVITY IN THE IN THE WRESTLING ROOM AND YOU KNOW, JUST EVERYBODY LOVED HIM. ONE OF HIS COACHES SPOKE AT THE SERVICE. HIS MOTHER, CHRISTY HILLARD, SAYS HER SON WAS OUT WALKING HERE ON EASTERN PARKWAY AND BRADLEY AVENUE ON SATURDAY, MARCH 30TH, WHEN HIS LIFE TOOK A DEVASTATING TURN. A WITNESS I SPOKE WITH OFF CAMERA SAYS THERE WAS ABOUT 20 OR 30 PEOPLE AT THE DAIRY CASTLE THE EVENING THIS HAPPENED. THE WITNESS SAYS. ACROSS THE STREET AT THAT CHURCH, THERE WAS A MAN YELLING, APPARENTLY JUST YELLING TO HIMSELF. THE WITNESS SAYS JORDAN WELLS JUST CAME WALKING BY AND THE SUSPECT TURNED, LOOKED AT WELLS, SAID, WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT? AND THEN OUT OF NOWHERE, SHOT WELLS. POLICE SAY THAT SUSPECT IS DEMETRIUS JOHNSON, WHO IS NOW IN JAIL CHARGED WITH MURDER. JOHNSON’S CRIMINAL HISTORY INCLUDES CONVICTIONS FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND WANTON ENDANGERMENT. ACCORDING TO AN ARREST CITATION, HE HAD METHAMPHETAMINES AND A STOLEN GUN WHEN POLICE ARRESTED HIM ON APRIL 29TH. IT DOESN’T MAKE SENSE. IT DIDN’T MAKE IT DOESN’T MAKE SENSE. I JUST DON’T UNDERSTAND HOW SOMEONE COULD BE SO EVIL TO SHOOT SOMEONE THEY DON’T KNOW FOR NO REASON. LIKE IT JUST I CAN’T. I CAN’T MAKE SENSE OF IT. The man killed near Louisville's Dairy Kastle had never met his assailant and had barely even interacted with the suspect before the shooting, according to interviews with a witness and the victim's mother."It doesn't make sense," said Kristie Hillard, mother of Jordan Wells. "I just don't understand how someone could be so evil to shoot someone they don't know, for no reason."Police say Wells was shot by Demetrius Johnson, who is now charged with murder and being held at Louisville Metro Corrections on a $1 million bond. Wells, 23, was walking back to his home in Germantown around 5:30 p.m. March 30 – the evening before Easter, his mother said. It was a pleasant spring evening, and about 20-30 people were at the Dairy Kastle at Eastern Parkway and Bradley Avenue, a witness told WLKY News. But across the street, Johnson was yelling as if in an argument with someone, even though he was alone and did not appear to be on the phone, the witness said. Wells was walking by when Johnson turned to him, yelled, "What are you looking at?" and then pulled out a gun and shot Wells, the witness recalled.Moments later, Johnson ran off and stunned bystanders rushed to Wells aid. He died on April 20 from his injuries."We're so grateful to God for that opportunity because we were able to tell him how much we love him, how proud we are of him, how strong he is, what a fighter (he is)," Hillard said. Wells was a South Oldham High School graduate who enjoyed wrestling in high school and continued to stay active, running two mini-marathons and frequently going for walks in the neighborhood, Hillard said.He loved animals, enjoyed fishing and worked at G.E. Appliances, she said. "He's just the best son you could ever have and the best big brother," Hillard said. "Just kind, strong, driven."When police finally located Johnson on April 29, they found 41 grams of methamphetamine and a stolen gun on him, according to his arrest citation. In addition to being charged with Wells' murder, he was also charged with domestic violence and strangulation in the first degree in connection with a separate incident with a former girlfriend that took place on April 9, according to court records. Johnson's criminal history includes prior domestic violence and wanton endangerment convictions.
