Suspect arrested, identified after using stolen car from Fresh Market in West Memphis bank robbery, police say
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Memphis police have arrested and booked a man who is suspected of robbing a bank in the West Memphis area.
The suspect has been identified as 35-year-old Freddie Najil.
The West Memphis Police Department rushed to the Evolve Bank and Trust at 310 Shoppingway Boulevard at 11:15 a.m. Friday after receiving word that an armed robbery was in progress. By the time police arrived, Najil had already made off in a stolen Infiniti.
Authorities with Arkansas State Police joined in the pursuit and the chase crossed over the bridge into Memphis, where MPD got involved.
Officers were able to detain Najil after he reportedly crashed on Riverside Drive in Downtown Memphis.
Law enforcement officials say the Infiniti that the alleged robber was driving is the same one reported stolen from Fresh Market in Midtown Memphis on Thursday afternoon. The victim’s dog, a German Shepherd-Husky mix named Yoshi, was in the vehicle when it was stolen.
Yoshi’s whereabouts are still unknown. Her owner is offering a $2,000 award for her safe return.
Anyone with information on Yoshi’s location is asked to call the Memphis Police Department at 901-545-COPS.
Yoshi has two distinct markings: a spotted left ear and a shaved spot on her right foreleg where had a recent IV.
