CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Federal restrictions on cannabis could soon be eased across the nation—in a potentially historic move by the White House.

According to reports, the Biden Administration is poised to announce a rule to reclassify cannabis, for the first time in decades.

From Schedule I substances, which includes heroin, to Schedule III, which includes Tylenol with codeine. This move would allow cannabis to be studied for medical benefits and remove tax burdens for businesses in states where the drug is legal.

22News spoke with Payton Shubrick, the owner of the adult-use cannabis shop 6 Bricks in Springfield about this move. “This is a positive step forward for those who are currently being prescribed prescription drugs who want to explore cannabis but are not sure, and we have no research that actually could speak to the benefit..”

Most states in the Northeast have completely legalized cannabis so far, with the exception of New Hampshire.
